Barbara Zachary Grelling, Ph.D.is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in the treatment of adults with anxiety, depression, relationship problems, eating disorders and difficulties in postpartum adjustment. She integrates a variety of evidence-based treatment approaches in a manner that is compassionate and empowering. In addition to her private practice, Dr. Grelling works for Kaiser Permanente in Walnut Creek, CA where she serves on the Intensive Outpatient Program for adults with eating disorders. She was formerly on the staff at The Renfrew Center, one of the nation's pre-eminent treatment facilities for eating disorders and women's mental health. Dr. Grelling led intensive outpatient groups there and provided individual and family therapy. In addition to her work with eating disorders, Dr. Grelling is a specialist in the treatment of anxiety and mood disorders related to pregnancy, birth and other obstetric and gynecological events. Dr. Grelling has lectured to numerous professional groups on this topic and has consulted to government agencies on maternal mental health. She has a particular interest in the emotional stress of high risk pregnancy and premature birth, and presented on this topic at the annual conference of the Florida Association for Infant Mental Health. She also has a more general interest in the transition to parenthood and, with her husband Dr. Kent Grelling, developed a prenatal class for couples, offered at Nova Southeastern University's Mailman Segal Institute for Early Childhood Development. Dr. Grelling also has a background as a clinical supervisor, having trained graduate students at Nova Southeastern University, Kaiser Permanente and Atlantic Shores Healthcare's clinical internship program. She was critical in the design and implementation of the latter's internship program, and authored the successful self-study application for accreditation as an APA internship site. She also supervised the Department of Psychology's Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) program. Prior to this, she worked as the Coordinator of the Adult Outpatient Program in the Psychology Services Center at Nova Southeastern University, where she provided therapy and supervision of graduate students and interns. Dr. Grelling graduated magna cum laude with her B.A. in Psychology from the University of California at Berkeley. She earned her Ph.D. in Clinical and Community Psychology from the University of Maryland in College Park, where she graduated with a 4.0 GPA and then completed an APA-accredited internship program at Woodburn Center for Community Mental Health. Dr. Grelling is a member of the American Psychological Association. She formerly sat on the Board of Directors of the California Psychological Association and worked on its Governmental Affairs Committee doing legislative advocacy. She is also a member of Postpartum Support International and the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD) |
